New Delhi,
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, inaugurated the National IED Data Management System (NIDMS) of the National Security Guard (NSG) today via video conferencing from New Delhi. The event saw participation from Union Home Secretary, Intelligence Bureau Director, NSG Director General, Directors General of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and Directors General of Police from various states.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Shah highlighted the transformative data initiatives under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership over the past six years. He emphasized that NIDMS will play a pivotal role in investigating terrorist incidents, analyzing their patterns, and serving as a next-generation security shield against terrorism. “Until now, data sources were in silos; now, we’re connecting them with advanced AI-based software for analysis,” he stated, calling the NIDMS launch a key milestone in fortifying India’s anti-terrorism framework.
The platform provides a two-way, comprehensive, integrated, and online data hub accessible to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), state Anti-Terrorism Squads (ATS), police forces, and CAPFs. Any IED or explosion-related data from across the country can be uploaded, offering real-time guidance for investigations and strategy formulation against terror trends.
Shri Shah noted that NSG’s database, covering bomb explosions since 1999, will now be shared nationwide via NIDMS. This will enable precise analysis of explosion patterns, modus operandi (MO), explosives used, circuit methods, and inter-linkages between incidents, yielding critical insights.
Describing NIDMS as a secure national digital platform, the Home Minister outlined its benefits in three key areas: streamlined collection, standardization, integration, and secure sharing of IED data; single-click access to scattered case files for investigators; and enhanced internal security through ‘One Nation, One Data Repository’. This initiative will boost prosecution speed and quality with scientific, evidence-based patterns, foster better agency coordination, and ensure timely information delivery.
Praising NSG as a “world-class, zero-error force,” Shri Shah lauded its role in counter-terrorism, anti-hijacking, and bomb disposal operations. Established in 1984, NSG has earned accolades including three Ashok Chakras, two Kirti Chakras, and others for its valor. He highlighted NSG’s evolution with regional hubs in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and the upcoming Ayodhya hub, enabling response times of 1-1.5 hours anywhere in India.
The Home Minister also touched on broader digital policing advances: nearly 100% of 17,741 police stations linked to CCTNS; ICJS-2’s ‘One Data–One Entry’ system integrating court data, e-Prisons (2.2 crore prisoners), e-Prosecution (2 crore cases), e-Forensics (31 lakh samples), and NAFIS (1.21 crore fingerprints). NIDMS will integrate with these, leveraging AI to build a robust security grid.
