Anantnag Police Crack Down on Drug Trafficking: Seize Codeine Phosphate Consignment

BuzzBytes Anantnag In a significant blow to drug trafficking in the region, Anantnag Police, in collaboration with other authorities, have seized a consignment of 60 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from VRL Logistics in Halmullah, Bijbehara. Acting on specific intelligence, a joint team comprising Anantnag Police, an Executive Magistrate, and an officer from the District Drug Controller swiftly moved to intercept the illicit shipment.The consignment, ordered by Riyaz Ahmad of Hassanpora Bagh Frisal Kulgam through a local Chemist License Pharma House, was promptly confiscated on the spot. Notably, the involved Pharma House had its license revoked in February 2024 due to its involvement in the illegal sale of narcotic drugs. An ongoing investigation into the matter has been intensified, with a separate case registered against the owner.This seizure marks the latest development in the concerted efforts of law enforcement agencies to curb drug-related activities in the region. So far in 2024, a total of 14 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been registered in Bijbehara alone. In response, authorities have taken decisive action against six chemists and wholesale dealers, including license cancellations, shop closures, and confiscation of illegal medicines.Moreover, the investigations have unearthed a complex drug trafficking network spanning the Union Territory, implicating manufacturers from outside the region, local medicine distributors, and drug peddlers. Anantnag Police are steadfast in their commitment to safeguarding the community against the menace of drugs, reassuring residents of ongoing efforts to maintain a drug-free society.
