Ganderbal, Feb 29, KNT: Ayush medicine worth lakhs has been discarded at a treatment plant in the Malshahi Bagh area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. Some of the dumped medicine has expired, while others that have been discarded are still within their expiry dates.Locals allege that instead of providing medicine to impoverished patients, the authorities prefer to set it aside and later dispose of it.Under the Ayush scheme, medicines are not freely distributed, and health awareness camps are organized at district and block levels.“Wasting medicine in such a huge quantity amply proves that those at the helm of affairs have miserably failed to implement the scheme on the ground. This scheme, aimed at providing benefits to poor patients, has proven a damp squib,” said a local to the news agency Kashmir News Trust. The locals have appealed to Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal to intervene in the matter and thoroughly investigate it.“Instead of wasting medicines, they should be given to poor patients,” locals said. When contacted, an official assured that the matter would be looked into, and an investigation would determine why this medicine was not distributed among patients.
