Bandipora: The District Administration Bandipora on Tuesday announced a comprehensive traffic diversion plan to minimise congestion and ensure uninterrupted movement of vehicles after the closure of a vital Naninara bridge in the area.

In an official order issued by Deputy Commissioner Indu Kanwal Chib (JKAS), the administration notified alternative routes for heavy and light motor vehicles until the bridge is technically certified as safe for travel.

According to the order, all Heavy Motor Vehicles, whether travelling towards Bandipora or moving out of the district, must use the Safapora–Manasbal–Barsoo road, which connects via the Ganderbal route. The decision aims to prevent bottlenecks and reduce pressure on the closed stretch.

For light motor vehicles, the administration has issued separate directions. Traffic heading from Sumbal towards Bandipora will now be routed through the Sumbal–Naninara alternate link–Safapora road. Vehicles moving from Bandipora towards Sumbal have been advised to take the Safapora–Manasbal–Barsoo (Ganderbal road) route.

Authorities said the diversion plan will remain in force until engineers declare the bridge safe for public movement. Only after technical clearance will the order be reviewed or withdrawn.

The administration has also warned that any individual or agency violating the diversion plan will face legal action under relevant provisions of the law.

The detailed directive has been circulated to senior officials of Public Works (R&B), the Divisional Commissioner, police units, R&B Sumbal, and the District Information Office for wider public outreach.
