Hajin: Bandipora Police organized an awareness program on the new criminal laws at Dak Bungalow, Sumbal, on Wednesday. The event, chaired by DIG North Kashmir, Maqsood-ul-Zaman, aimed to educate senior citizens about key aspects of the revised legal framework.

The program was attended by SSP Bandipora, SDPO Hajin, SDPO Sumbal, SHO Hajin, SHO Sumbal, other senior officers, and senior citizens.

DIG North Kashmir provided an in-depth briefing on the salient features of the new criminal laws, emphasizing their justice-oriented and victim-centric approach. He highlighted that the revised laws prioritize justice over mere punishment, ensuring swift trials and timely justice for victims. Special focus has been placed on crimes against women and children, with stricter provisions and improved legal mechanisms for their protection.

He further stressed that the new legal framework incorporates technological advancements to enhance the efficiency of the criminal justice system. Urging citizens to be aware of their rights and responsibilities, he emphasized that an informed public plays a crucial role in upholding justice in society.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, the DIG reiterated that their top priority is to eradicate terrorism from North Kashmir entirely and that the fight against it will continue with full force. Regarding drug-related crimes, he emphasized that law enforcement agencies are actively working to eliminate the menace, with properties of drug peddlers already being seized and further undisclosed assets under identification for confiscation.

“After arresting drug peddlers, our focus has now shifted to targeting the kingpins to dismantle the larger network in society,” said Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Kashmir.
