In a commendable departure from convention, Nida Altaf, a dedicated aspirant for the Kashmir Administrative Services (KAS), has become a rare example by establishing a thriving sheep farm at her home in Babnar village, Shopian district.

Nida manages a flock of around 100 sheep and has created employment opportunities for four individuals on her farm, leveraging a government subsidiary scheme. Despite recently qualifying for the KAS prelims after completing her graduation a year ago, she has chosen to embark on an entrepreneurial journey in sheep farming.

Expressing her ambitions, Nida shared her plans to expand the sheep farm and establish a state-of-the-art wool factory. Demonstrating a commitment to scientific practices, she has set up a new shed for the sheep, ensuring their well-being and productivity.

“I am providing employment to three youth besides supporting my family economically,” Nida joyfully stated, expressing gratitude to the government, district administration, and the sheep husbandry department for the timely assistance that facilitated her initiative.

Breaking away from entrenched stereotypes and challenging centuries-old male dominance, Nida’s journey from a KAS aspirant to a successful sheep farmer exemplifies resilience and determination. Starting with a flock of 100 sheep, she has achieved substantial economic success for her family.

Nida acknowledged the unwavering support from the Sheep Husbandry Department, emphasizing their consistent assistance whenever needed. Encouraging other unemployed youth, she appealed for them to seize opportunities provided by central government schemes.

Nida Altaf’s story is a testament to the transformative power of determination, entrepreneurship, and breaking gender stereotypes, inspiring others to explore unconventional paths for sustainable livelihoods.
