Ganderbal, May 10: Continuing the series of programmes focused on drug abuse awareness and social reform, an event titled “Asluk Aalav – The Call for Truth” was organised at Government Degree College Ganderbal by Al-Rahim Trust in coordination with several NGOs working for social transformation in Jammu and Kashmir.
The event witnessed participation from prominent social, religious and political figures including BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul, Molvi Owais Qadri, Assistant Development Commissioner Ganderbal Dr Salahuddin, Dr Abdul Ahad Makhdoomi, Chairman Al-Rahim Trust Nazir Gulkari, Helping Hands Organisation Chairman Omar Wani, social activist Syed Aijaz Kashani, Dr Towseef Mustafa, Merajuddin Bujha, G.R. Hami and others.
Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board Chairperson Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi attended the programme as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Andrabi appreciated the growing public support, particularly from the youth, for the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan launched under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
“We all supported the peace initiatives of the government after 2019, and today we are living a peaceful and progressive life full of dreams and aspirations in Jammu and Kashmir. Now, collective and consistent efforts can surely achieve a drug-free J&K for all of us,” she said.
Dr Andrabi termed the eradication of drug abuse an unfinished mission essential for ensuring lasting peace and prosperity for the younger generation. She also praised the police administration for taking strict action against drug peddlers and traffickers.
“Harsher and stronger measures are still needed to break the backbone of the drug syndicate operating in Jammu and Kashmir,” she asserted.
Calling for social accountability, Dr Andrabi said society must adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards those involved in narcotics trade.
“We have to think seriously about strict social punishment for those destroying our young generation. Social boycott of people involved in drug trafficking can become a powerful deterrent,” she added.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge by participants to strengthen awareness campaigns and support initiatives aimed at building a drug-free and morally responsible society in Jammu and Kashmir.
