In a week that has rekindled hope for a safer Jammu and Kashmir, the men and women of the J&K Police have once again proven why they remain the frontline defenders of peace. Through swift, intelligence-led operations across the Union Territory, they have struck decisively against organised crime, the drug menace, and forces threatening social harmony. Their actions — from neutralising a dreaded criminal in Jammu to major narcotics seizures in Anantnag and Udhampur, along with firm preventive measures in Shopian — merit unequivocal appreciation from every citizen.
On April 26, Jammu Police displayed exceptional courage in Miran Sahib when a notorious history-sheeter, Abhineet Singh, linked to the Nagi gang and wanted in multiple criminal cases, opened fire at a routine checkpoint. The police response was swift, precise, and fearless. The threat was neutralised without any harm to civilians or personnel — a testament to the professionalism and composure of the force under pressure.
Equally significant is the sustained crackdown on narcotics under the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan’. In Anantnag, coordinated operations led to the seizure of over 166 kilograms of contraband, including ganja and charas, with multiple arrests. In Udhampur, police detained six individuals and attached properties worth ₹73 lakh linked to drug trafficking. These actions go far beyond routine enforcement — they strike directly at the financial backbone of drug networks, protect vulnerable youth, and disrupt channels often exploited by anti-national elements. The message is clear and uncompromising: crime will not pay.
In Shopian, the administration, acting on a detailed police dossier, declared Darul Uloom Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom an unlawful entity under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, citing concerns over alleged links to banned outfits and the risk of radicalisation. This move reflects a proactive and preventive approach — one that seeks to secure institutions of learning and shield young minds from harmful influences.
Taken together, these actions underline the professionalism, coordination, and unwavering commitment of the J&K Police. In a region that has long endured instability, such firm and consistent policing is restoring public confidence, encouraging tourism, and strengthening the foundations of normalcy and development.
The police force deserves not just praise, but full public support. It is equally the responsibility of society — parents, community leaders, youth, and civil institutions — to stand alongside them, share credible information, and reject the forces of crime and addiction. Collective responsibility is key to lasting peace.
With sustained resolve and active public cooperation, the vision of a peaceful, prosperous, and drug-free Jammu and Kashmir is no longer aspirational — it is within reach.
J&K Police continue to stand tall as true sentinels of peace.
