Dharmendra Pradhan, Sakina Itoo Review Education Initiatives in J&K

NEW DELHI, June 8: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday held a meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Itoo and reviewed issues related to teacher education institutions, school education and higher education initiatives in the Union Territory.
The meeting focused on strengthening the education ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir through enhanced teacher training, institutional development, skill development programmes and measures aimed at improving educational outcomes.
Sharing details of the interaction, Pradhan said the discussions covered key areas concerning teacher education institutions and the progress of ongoing educational initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Held a productive discussion with Sakina Itoo, Minister for Education, Health & Medical Education and Social Welfare, Government of Jammu & Kashmir,” the Union Minister said in a post on social media platform X.
According to Pradhan, both leaders reviewed matters relating to teacher training programmes, development of educational institutions and initiatives designed to strengthen the overall education framework in the Union Territory.
“Reviewed issues related to Teacher Education Institutions and the progress of school and higher education initiatives in Jammu & Kashmir. Discussed teacher training, institutional development, skilling and other measures to further strengthen the education ecosystem,” he said.
The meeting also focused on enhancing employability among students and creating greater educational and career opportunities for youth across Jammu and Kashmir.
Pradhan said encouraging trends were being witnessed in student enrolment and educational outcomes in the Union Territory, reflecting the impact of ongoing reforms and developmental efforts in the education sector.
“Encouraging to note the positive trends in enrolment and educational outcomes,” he said.
The Union Minister reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to working closely with the Jammu and Kashmir Government to expand access to quality education and strengthen opportunities for students.
“Through continued collaboration between the Central Government and the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, we remain committed to expanding access to quality education, enhancing employability and creating greater opportunities for the students and youth of Jammu & Kashmir,” Pradhan added.
Officials said the meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure, strengthen teacher capacity and align skill development programmes with emerging employment opportunities.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts between the Centre and the Union Territory administration to ensure inclusive, accessible and quality education for students across Jammu and Kashmir.
