Present at the meeting was Mohammad Aijaz Asad, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, who also serves as the District Election Officer (DEO).

The Divisional Commissioner commenced by thoroughly assessing the progress made in the ongoing SSR-2023 within the district, discussing the influx of fresh applications for inclusion and the status of other claims and objections. Special attention was given to the digitization process and the expeditious handling of claims and objections. He urged the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) to adhere to Election Commission guidelines, ensuring timely revisions as per the notified schedule to meet targets.

It was reported that all 8 EROs within the district are in position, and comprehensive training and orientation programs for all officials, including Booth Level Officers (BLOs), were conducted in advance in every Assembly Constituency. The focus of these training sessions revolved around the use of apps like BLO App and Voter Helpline App, emphasizing their role in lodging claims or objections related to the inclusion, deletion, correction, or transposition of names in the electoral rolls.

Moreover, ample relevant forms necessary for the summary revision of electoral rolls have been made available in various offices, educational institutions, and at polling station levels to streamline the process.

Highlighting the establishment of a robust Public Grievance Management System (PGMS), it was emphasized that the system, present at the offices of DEO/ERO/AERO, caters to addressing people’s issues and grievances associated with the revision of electoral rolls.

The Commissioner stressed the importance of proactive efforts by the EROs through the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Program (SVEEP) to encourage all eligible young voters to register their names in the electoral rolls, ensuring no eligible voter is left unregistered.
