Qaiser Sultan Jin emphasized the paradox of Jammu and Kashmir, a significant player in hydroelectricity with 21 operational hydropower projects, still grappling with power shortages. He raised questions about the administration’s explanation that the region faces a deficit of over 500 MW, leading to the purchase of electricity at higher rates, which is then provided to consumers, including those in the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category, at lower tariffs.

Drawing attention to the contrasting subsidies and loan waivers provided to other states, Qaiser Sultan questioned why the administration of Jammu and Kashmir has not implemented similar measures for the benefit of its residents. He urged the government to address the power crisis urgently, especially during the harsh winter months, to provide relief to the people.

The protest by DPA Party workers underscores the pressing need for immediate and effective measures to resolve the power crisis, ensuring the well-being of the residents in Kashmir.
