New Delhi Oct 5: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy, and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, emphasized the pivotal role that the industry is expected to play in driving future startup ventures and emerging technology initiatives. He called for a shift in the industry’s mindset from excessive reliance on government support to becoming equal stakeholders in innovation from the very beginning.

Addressing the 3rd India Quantum Technology Conclave 2023, organized by ASSOCHAM, Dr. Singh highlighted the necessity of establishing equitable relationships between the government, academia, and industry as India advances in frontier research and development, including the burgeoning field of Quantum Technology. He stressed that global challenges demand a global outlook and collaborative strategies, and the industry must step forward in risk management.

Dr. Jitendra Singh also discussed the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (NRF), announced by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He revealed that a substantial portion, Rs. 36,000 crore out of the NRF budget of Rs. 50,000 crore over five years, is expected to come from non-governmental sources. This significant infusion of non-government resources is poised to bridge the gap between the public and private sectors, promoting integration. NRF will serve as a think tank, deciding project themes, funding, and foreign collaborations.

Furthermore, Dr. Singh emphasized the need for early industry involvement, creating an optimal ecosystem for innovation. He highlighted the importance of industry engagement and capital infusion to propel India’s quantum startup ecosystem forward. Currently, India boasts 3,000 startups under the Aroma Mission and 150 Space Startups. Dr. Singh underlined the importance of ensuring the sustainability of over 1.25 lakh startups launched in the past nine years, emphasizing the significance of continued support and follow-up.
