Farmer-Scientist Program Tackles Apple Blotch Leaf Miner Disease in Shopian

In a collaborative effort between the Division of Entomology, Faculty of Horticulture, SKUAST, Kashmir, and the Horticulture Department, Shopian, a mass awareness cum farmer-scientist interaction program on the management of apple blotch leaf miner disease was organized at the Meeting Hall of Mini-Secretariat Shopian.

The event, graced by the presence of Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Shopian, Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone as the chief guest, emphasized the crucial role of orchardists in collaborating with departments and research institutions to stay abreast of the latest advancements in pest management techniques.

ADDC Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone encouraged orchardists to actively engage with the horticulture department, seek guidance on new practices, and adopt the latest technologies to combat the apple blotch leaf miner disease that has impacted orchards.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz, highlighted the need for orchardists to embrace modern technology and adhere to expert advice for effective disease management. Joint Director, Horticulture, Kashmir, assured training for officers and officials on pest identification stages for optimal control.

Dr. Manzoor Ahmed Parray, Head Division of Entomology, SKUAST, underscored the collaborative efforts needed among institutions, including the Department of Horticulture, SKUAST Kashmir, and the Department of Agriculture, to benefit the farming community.

Interactive sessions with farmers provided a platform for knowledge exchange. Head KVK, Shopian, Dr. Zaffar Badri, CHO, CAO, experts from SKUAST Kashmir, and other concerned officers and officials contributed to the success of the program.
