The Fisheries Department, under the guidance of District Development Commissioner (DDC) Shopian, Faz Lul Haseeb, conducted a significant trout fish stocking initiative in the natural water bodies of district Shopian.

DDC Faz Lul Haseeb led the release of ten thousand (10,000) Rainbow Trout Yearlings into the Upper Rambaira Stream at Heerpora. These fish, artificially raised at the Trout Fish Farm Kokernag, aim to supplement existing wild populations, contributing to the aquatic ecosystem and promoting eco-tourism activities.

Assistant Director Fisheries, Zahoor Ahmad Mir, highlighted the positive results observed in the stream over the past few years, with increased angler visits for fishing. Today’s stocking, consisting of Rainbow Trout Yearlings, is expected to enhance tourism and fisheries-related activities in the region.

DDC Faz Lul Haseeb expressed confidence that this practice will not only benefit eco-tourism but also boost angling activities, fostering a positive impact on the local economy. The initiative aligns with the district’s commitment to promoting sustainable fisheries practices and environmental conservation.

Dy DEO Shopian, Jahangeer Ahmad, and other officials from the Fisheries Department were present during the trout stocking event, reinforcing the collaborative effort to enhance the aquatic ecosystem in Shopian.
