On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the remarkable journey of Albeena Malik stands as a powerful example of determination, dedication, and the growing role of women in law enforcement. Her achievements reflect not only personal perseverance but also the rising empowerment of women across society.
Hailing from the border district of Poonch in the picturesque Pir Panjal region, Albeena Malik created history by becoming the first woman officer from the district to join the Jammu and Kashmir Police Service (JKPS). Her accomplishment brought immense pride and inspiration to the entire Pir Panjal region.
Born and raised in Surankote, she completed her early education and graduation in her hometown. Her professional journey began in public service when she was selected as a government school teacher, a role she served with commitment for nearly five years in the Poonch district. However, driven by a strong desire to contribute to society on a broader platform, she decided to prepare for competitive examinations.
Her dedication and perseverance paid off when she successfully cleared the prestigious JKPS examination in 2012, marking a historic milestone as the first woman police officer from Poonch district to achieve this distinction.
Throughout her distinguished career, Albeena Malik has served in several key positions, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) IRP 15th Battalion, DySP Welfare at PHQ, SDPO Railways Jammu, and DySP CICE in the Crime Branch Jammu. In addition to her routine policing responsibilities, she has handled numerous critical assignments with exceptional professionalism and integrity. Her exemplary performance has earned her widespread appreciation from senior officers and recognition within the department.
Her outstanding service has been acknowledged through several prestigious honours, including the DGP Commendation Medal and the RPF Certification Award. Adding another significant achievement to her illustrious career, she was recently honoured with the Women Cyber Cop Award, being selected among 33 distinguished women officers from across the country working in cyber policing. This recognition highlights her contribution toward combating cybercrime and strengthening digital security mechanisms.
Albeena Malik belongs to a family deeply rooted in education and public service. Her mother, Mohtarma Hassina Banoo, holds MA and B.Ed degrees and served as a headmaster before her retirement, contributing significantly to the field of education. Her father, Dr. M. S. Malik, is a distinguished academic and administrator. Holding MA, MPhil, and PhD degrees in Urdu, he was a KAS officer from the 1984 batch and retired as a Director in government service. He also holds the distinction of being the first individual from his native village Chandimarh in Surankote to qualify for the prestigious KAS examination.
Dr. Malik has also made notable academic contributions. His MPhil research focused on the early development of Urdu novels in the context of Jammu and Kashmir, while his doctoral research explored the life and literary contributions of Thakur Poonchi, a prominent literary figure from Poonch. Significantly, he was also the first person from Poonch district to earn a PhD, setting a benchmark for academic excellence in the region.
Continuing the legacy of public service, Albeena Malik is married to Syed Javeed Ahmad, a Superintendent of Police and a JKPS officer from the 2011 batch.
Holding an MSc in DFSM and belonging to the JKPS Batch of 2012, Albeena Malik proudly represents Village Chandimarh in Surankote, District Poonch. Her journey—from a small border village in the Pir Panjal mountains to becoming a decorated police officer—symbolizes courage, perseverance, and the empowerment of women in uniform.
As the nation celebrates International Women’s Day, the people of the Pir Panjal region proudly salute this daughter of the soil, whose inspiring achievements continue to motivate countless young women to pursue their dreams and serve the nation with honour and pride.
