“From Hartal Calendars to Festival Vibes: J&K Development Soars 10 Times in 4 Years”

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha highlighted the remarkable transformation in Jammu and Kashmir, noting the shift from hartal calendars issued by Pakistan to festival calendars issued by the UT administration. Terror hotspots have given way to vibrant tourist destinations, and discussions of stone pelting and grenade attacks have been replaced by the lively night scene at Jhelum and celebratory videos at Lal Chowk on December 31.At the launch of ‘J&K Sambhaav Utsav-2024’ organized by the Resident Commission Jammu Kashmir in New Delhi, Sinha emphasized the evolving image of Jammu and Kashmir.

He pointed out the thriving night life at Jhelum, December 31 celebrations at Lal Chowk, urban transformation, the bustling Polo View market, and the flourishing tourist industry.Sinha highlighted the significant changes witnessed in the region over the past four years. Notably, the transition from terror hotspots to tourist hotspots in Kashmir, with areas like Shopian and Pulwama now known for cinemas and cafes.

He noted the youth’s shift from wielding stones to laptops.Referring to recent developments, such as the grant of Scheduled Tribe status to Paharis and other tribes, Sinha underlined the social and economic empowerment under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.The Lieutenant Governor emphasized the 10-fold increase in development projects, reaching 92,000 in the last year. He predicted that Jammu and Kashmir farmers, currently at the fifth spot in income in India, would claim the top position within four years.Sinha highlighted the surge in foreign tourist arrivals, reaching two and a half times after the G20 meeting in Srinagar. The number of tourists visiting the UT rose from 1.97 crore in 2022 to 2.13 crore in 2023. Iconic destinations like Gurez and Lolab were declared beautiful offbeat tourist spots, surpassing European destinations.

Addressing the economic front, Sinha mentioned the impressive turnaround of Jammu and Kashmir Bank, from a loss of Rs 1234 crore in 2019 to an expected profit of Rs 1800 crore by the end of the year. Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) have decreased, and the bank’s shares have surged.During the launch of ‘J&K Sambhaav Utsav-2024,’ Sinha congratulated the officials of the Resident Commission Jammu Kashmir, highlighting the exhibition’s representation of the region’s cultural, artistic heritage, cuisine, agriculture, and handicraft products.He inaugurated the ‘Hello J&K’ initiative, a hub connecting youth with domain experts, and announced digital competitions for youth in photography, painting, and singing on the theme “Know Jammu Kashmir.” Additionally, Sinha inaugurated various new projects by J&K’s Resident Commission.The Lt Governor expressed optimism about the future of Jammu and Kashmir, contributing to a developed India. The ‘Hello J&K’ initiative aims to be a one-stop center for education, entrepreneurship, livelihood, health, wellness, tour and travel guidance, and safety & security for citizens living outside the UT.The Lieutenant Governor’s address highlighted the positive trajectory of Jammu and Kashmir, showcasing the region’s evolution, development, and vibrant culture.
