Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that Gen Z and Gen Alpha will lead India to the goal of a developed nation as he addressed the national Veer Baal Diwas programme at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. “You are Gen Z and, in a way, Gen Alpha. It is your generation that will take India towards the goal of Viksit Bharat. When I see the capability and strength of Gen Z, I understand it, and that is why I have immense trust in you,” he told the youngsters present.
Opening his address, the Prime Minister said, “Today, the nation is observing Veer Baal Diwas. Today, we remember the brave Sahibzades, the pride of our nation. They embody India’s indomitable courage and the highest ideals of valour.” He added that the young sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji “broke the limits of age and circumstance” and “stood like a rock against the cruel Mughal Sultanate, shaking the very existence of religious fanaticism and terror.”
Modi said Veer Baal Diwas is “a day of reverence, dedicated to remembering the sacrifice of the brave Sahibzades,” and recalled “the unshakeable faith of Mata Gujri Ji and the immortal teachings of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.” “This day is associated with courage, conviction and righteousness. Their lives and ideals will continue to motivate people for generations,” he said.
The Prime Minister linked the commemoration to a larger effort to shed colonial thinking. “India has resolved to break free from the colonial mindset once and for all,” he said, referring to the impact of Macaulay’s policies and the long neglect of indigenous heroes. “As India frees itself from the colonial mindset, its linguistic diversity is emerging as a source of strength,” he added, noting the increasing use of Indian languages in Parliament and public life.
Addressing members of the Yuva Bharat organisation, Modi told them, “Your generation will sail us to new heights.” Quoting a Sanskrit saying, he said, “If a small child talks about wisdom, we must adopt it,” explaining that “greatness is not defined by age but by deeds and achievements.” Urging the youth to aim higher, he said, “You can do big work at a small age; you have done it. But these achievements should be seen differently — take your dreams to the sky. The country is with you with strong determination.”
He asked young people to dream big, work hard and stay rooted in values. “I expect the youth of India to dream big, work hard and never let their confidence weaken,” the Prime Minister said, stressing that their success “should not be limited to themselves but should become the success of the country.” Calling Veer Baal Diwas “a day associated with courage, conviction and righteousness,” he said the spirit of the Sahibzades should guide the choices of today’s generation.
Modi also underlined ongoing efforts to empower youth through policy and programmes, referring to initiatives such as Digital India, Startup India, Khelo India and the National Education Policy, and said new opportunities are opening in every sector for one of the world’s youngest nations. He reiterated that Gen Z and Gen Alpha are “the greatest strength” for building a Viksit Bharat and concluded by again paying tribute to the Sahibzades and congratulating the young achievers present at the event.
