BuzzBytes Srinagar, Dec 18, 2023: In a groundbreaking development, the Rajya Sabha approved The Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill 2023, paving the way for a significant transformation in Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape. The bill mandates a 33% reservation for women in the J&K Assembly, marking a crucial step towards gender inclusivity.

Under the leadership of Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar, Ministry of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai successfully moved the bill, previously endorsed by the Lok Sabha. The Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2023 also extends the reservation to Puducherry, emphasizing the broader scope of gender empowerment.
Simultaneously, the Rajya Sabha endorsed The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Second Amendment) Bill, 2023, introducing modifications to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019.
