Javiad Sagar Anantnag 14 December:

An interactive session organized by the Income Tax Department, J&K, in collaboration with District Administration, Anantnag, aimed to educate more than 250 DDOs, Account Officers, and Government employees on the importance of proper document verification before granting deductions.
Chaired by Sh. Rahul Padha, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar, the event featured officers such as Sh. M.L Dogra, Sh. Karamvir, and Sh. Ankit Dhaka. They addressed the significance of filing ITRs, complying with TDS provisions, and diligently verifying documents for eligible deductions.
Sh. Ankit Dhaka stressed the need for DDOs to issue Form-16 only after thorough verification of employees’ documents. Special attention was given to deductions like HRA, with a warning against the submission of bogus rent receipts.
To deter fraudulent claims, the department warned of initiating proceedings against individuals submitting forged documents. DDOs were advised to verify evidence for various sections, including 80C, 80D, and 80G, and only grant benefits to eligible employees.
Employees were urged to revise their ITRs before December 31, 2023, to rectify any ineligible claims for the fiscal year 2022-23. Those who claimed bogus refunds in previous years were encouraged to file Updated ITRs by March 31, 2024, with additional taxes to correct their mistakes.
The session concluded with resolving audience queries on Income Tax provisions. Sh. Rahul Padha emphasized the importance of timely and accurate ITR filings, assuring a robust grievance redressal mechanism for taxpayers.
Sh. Rahul Padha conveyed gratitude to all participants for their enthusiastic response and thanked the District Administration for their support in making the event a success.
