While daily cases had briefly dropped to double digits by December 5, the resurgence can be attributed to the emergence of a new variant and harsh cold weather conditions. Since the onset of the pandemic in early 2020, India has recorded over 4.5 crore infections and witnessed more than 5.3 lakh deaths.

Encouragingly, the national recovery rate stands at an impressive 98.81%, with over 4.4 crore individuals having successfully recuperated from the infection. On the vaccination front, the health ministry’s website reports that a substantial 220.67 crore doses of COVID vaccines have been administered in the country, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing battle against the pandemic.
