J&K Celebrates Eid-ul-Fitr with Religious Fervour; LG Sinha, CM Omar, Political Leaders Extend Greetings

‘Thousands Gather at Mosques and Eidgahs Across Valley as Leaders Call for Compassion, Unity and Support for Underprivileged’

Srinagar, Mar 20: Mosques and Eidgahs across Jammu and Kashmir are being prepared to host thousands of worshippers for special Eid prayers on Saturday morning, as the region gears up to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the culmination of the holy month of Ramadan. The festive spirit gripped the Valley on Eid eve, with markets across Srinagar, Budgam, Anantnag, Baramulla, Pulwama, Bandipora and other areas remaining crowded with shoppers despite rain and chill.
According to details, Eid congregations in the Valley are expected to take place at Asar-i-Sharif Hazratbal, Khanqah-e-Muala, Ziarat Syed Sahib at Sonwar, Janab Sahib Soura, Asar-e-Sharif Kalashpora, Asar-e-Sharif Lal Bazar and other mosques and shrines. Imams and clerics will deliver sermons highlighting the essence of the festival, urging devotees to help those in need and spread the true spirit of Eid throughout the community.
“Eid is about joy, gratitude, and sharing,” said Mohammad Sultan from Nishat, Srinagar. “We pray for peace, health and happiness for everyone and teach our children the importance of charity and kindness.”

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha extended his heartiest greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion. In his message, the Lieutenant Governor said, “On the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, I extend my heartiest greetings and good wishes to all. The festival of Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the auspicious culmination of the holy month of Ramzan, is an occasion of profound spiritual and social significance. The sacred festival embodies the noble spirit of sacrifice and the joy of sharing. On this auspicious day, let us recommit to humanity’s service, uplifting the lives of the poor and needy. May Eid usher in peace, prosperity and happiness for all.”

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah extended warm greetings to the people on the auspicious occasions of Eid-ul-Fitr and Nauroz, describing Eid as a divine celebration after a month of fasting, prayers and self-discipline during Ramadan. “Eid is a joyous occasion that brings people together to celebrate the blessings of Ramadan. It strengthens the bonds of community and reaffirms the values of mutual respect and brotherhood. It is a time to spread happiness, extend kindness and lend a helping hand to those in need,” he said. The Chief Minister observed that the festival reflects the rich ethos of communal harmony, shared heritage and cultural inclusivity that defines Jammu and Kashmir. Extending greetings on Nauroz, he said the festival marks the arrival of spring and the beginning of the Persian New Year, symbolizing renewal, hope and harmony.

National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah prayed for the acceptance of prayers and fasting and urged people to share the joy of Eid by supporting the underprivileged.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary extended warm greetings to the people, stating that both Eid-ul-Fitr and Nauroz hold immense religious and cultural significance and reflect the rich composite heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.

Javid Ahmad Dar, Minister for Agriculture Production, extended heartfelt greetings, saying, “Eid-ul-Fitr is an occasion to express sincere gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting strength and resilience to observe the fasts and for guiding believers on the path of righteousness.”

Javed Ahmed Rana, Minister for Jal Shakti, conveyed his heartfelt greetings, stating that Eid inspires all to lead a peaceful life and work for the prosperity of society, reflecting the essence of patience, self-discipline and spiritual growth observed during Ramadan.

Sakeena Itoo, Minister for Health and Medical Education, extended warm greetings, describing Eid-ul-Fitr as a festival that symbolizes compassion, generosity and gratitude, marking the culmination of a month of reflection, self-discipline and spiritual rejuvenation.

Satish Sharma, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, extended heartfelt greetings, urging people to celebrate the festival in its true spirit by reaching out to the underprivileged. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the availability of essential commodities during the festive period, with adequate measures to prevent black marketing, hoarding and overpricing.

National Conference General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar extended warm greetings, praying for the acceptance of the month-long fasting, prayers and devotion observed during Ramadan. He emphasized the essence of Eid as a festival of compassion, generosity and sharing, urging people to remember and support the underprivileged. He also greeted people on Nawroz, saying the festivity underlines resurgence and new beginnings.

Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari extended greetings, stating, “This revered occasion is not only a time for joy and celebration, but also a moment to thank the Almighty for the gift of Ramadan—a time that allows us to reflect, seek forgiveness, purify our hearts, and grow in faith.” He urged people to share their happiness with the poor and needy.

CPI(M) leader Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami extended warm Eid greetings to the people, emphasizing the need for peace, harmony and social justice. In his message, Tarigami prayed for the well-being of all and hoped that the festival strengthens the bonds of brotherhood and communal harmony across Jammu and Kashmir.

Social activist Muneer Khan also extended Eid greetings, calling upon people to reach out to the underprivileged and ensure that no one is left behind in the celebrations. He emphasized that the true spirit of Eid lies in sharing joy with those in need and fostering unity within the community.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti extended her greetings to the people on Eid-ul-Fitr. In her message, she prayed for peace, prosperity and harmony in Jammu and Kashmir and urged people to celebrate the festival with simplicity and compassion, while remembering those who are less fortunate.

Other leaders including JKNC Treasurer Shammi Oberoi, Advisor to Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, senior leaders Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Abdul Rahim Rather, Muhammad Shafi Uri, Mubarak Gul, Shameema Firdous, along with party MPs, MLAs, and office bearers Provincial Presidents Showkat Mir and Ratan Lal Gupta, State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar, Advisors Mushtaq Guroo and Mudassar Shahmiri, also extended Eid greetings, wishing peace, harmony and prosperity for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
