The Jammu and Kashmir Police held outreach programs in Srinagar and Jammu to sensitize functionaries of non-profit organizations (NPOs) against the misuse of such organizations for terror financing. The programs were organized jointly with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India.

Over 110 NPO functionaries from Jammu Province participated in the program in Jammu, which was aimed at educating them about the likely attempts by anti-national elements to use such NPOs for terror financing.
Omprakash Singh, JDD, MHA, said that while lakhs of NPOs are engaged in commendable work in different fields across the country, a few of them have knowingly or unknowingly been found to be involved in terror financing.
Power point presentations were given on the subject and case studies were also discussed for better understanding of the participants. The participants also put forth their concerns and apprehensions which were taken note of by the MHA officials.
Nitish Kumar, IGP CID J&K, said that it is heartening to see NPOs in large numbers, both in Kashmir and Jammu Provinces, having actively participated in the awareness program.
R R Swain, Special DG CID J&K, said that such programs shall be held in future as well being part of their multi-dimensional strategy to financially suffocate various terrorist organizations operating in J&K.
The outreach programs are a welcome step by the J&K Police and the MHA. It is important to educate NPOs about the risks of terror financing and to help them take steps to protect themselves from being misused by anti-national elements.
