In a significant move against narcotics trafficking, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has attached a residential house, JCB, and Tractor in Degwar, Terwan area near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vinay Sharma revealed that the residential house, owned by Shakar Din, was attached under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act-1985 (NDPS Act) in connection with FIR number 42/2023. The property, constructed on land with khasra number 400, is valued at Rs 87.86 lakh.

Additionally, a JCB 3DX (registration number JK12B-6168) and a Mahindra Tractor (registration number JK12C 4438), belonging to Mohd Yaseen, were seized under FIR number 77/2023. Charges include sections 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act, 13/18 UAPA Act, and 4/5 Explosives Act.

The operations were conducted in the presence of Executive Magistrates, Tehsildar Haveli Anjum Bashir Khatak, and Naib Tehsildar Haveli Maroof Khan.

SSP Vinay Sharma emphasized that this marks the initiation of freezing properties belonging to drug dealers. This action is part of a broader effort, with previous seizures including a double-storey residential house and two vehicles in Surankote.

He highlighted the necessity of targeting properties, revealing that Poonch police have registered 47 FIRs in NDPS act this year, leading to the arrest of 83 individuals and the recovery of 87 kgs of heroin.

“In seizing properties, we recognize that merely arresting drug peddlers is insufficient. Today’s actions resulted in the recovery of 24 kgs of heroin and 15 lakh cash from the two property owners,” stated SSP Vinay Sharma, reinforcing the commitment to combating drug mafias operating in the region. The police have identified additional properties, signaling a sustained effort against drug peddlers and dealers.
