SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 02: Across all District Court Complexes in Kashmir, a massive drive for cleanliness and awareness was carried out as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign. Initiated by the Government of India, this campaign aims to promote cleanliness and sanitation in the country, coinciding with Mahatma Gandhi’s 154th birth anniversary.

In Srinagar, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), under the guidance of Chairman DLSA Srinagar, Jawad Ahmed, organized a remarkable ‘Swachhata Abhiyan’ at the District Court Complex, Moominabad, Srinagar. This event saw enthusiastic participation from Judicial Officers, staff, Legal Aid Defense Counsel (LADC), Penal Lawyers, Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs), and officials from the Municipal Corporation, Srinagar. The initiative kicked off with a cleanliness drive within the Complex, setting the stage for a cleaner environment. A spirited rally led by Jawad Ahmed further emphasized the importance of cleanliness and a green environment.

At Budgam, the ‘Swachhata Abhiyan’ took place under the leadership of Additional District & Sessions Judge, Budgam, Aijaz Ahmad Khan. Judicial Officers, staff, LADCs, Penal Lawyers, PLVs, and officials from the Municipal Council, Budgam, actively participated in cleaning the surroundings.

Ganderbal witnessed the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) organizing ‘Swachchata Hi Sewa (SHS-2023)’ under the guidance of Principal District and Sessions Judge, Ritesh Kumar Dubey. This event involved various legal professionals, court staff, Public Prosecutors, Prosecution staff, e-court staff, officials from Municipality Ganderbal, and PLVs of DLSA. The initiative aimed to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday and promote cleanliness and hygiene.

Kulgam District Legal Services Authority, led by Chairman Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, organized a cleanliness drive to honor Mahatma Gandhi and promote his principles of cleanliness and sustainability. The celebration featured awareness sessions and cleanliness drives.

In Bandipora, District Legal Services Authority, in collaboration with District Judiciary and Municipal Council, conducted a cleanliness drive within the District Court Complex. The event was supervised by Chairman DLSA Bandipora, Amit Sharma, and highlighted the importance of cleanliness and community responsibility.

These events in Kashmir District Court Complexes underscored the commitment to preserving Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy and spreading awareness about cleanliness and sustainability. They emphasized the continued relevance of his teachings in today’s world.

On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 154th Birth Anniversary, mega functions were held in Ang, Pul, Gbl, and Kul to honor the ‘Father of the Nation.’

October 2nd marks Gandhi Jayanti, a day when people worldwide pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and promote his philosophy of non-violence, also observed as the ‘International Day of Non-Violence.’

At Anantnag: A grand event took place at the Women’s Degree College Anantnag, presided over by Deputy Commissioner S. F. Hamid. Speaking at the event, Hamid emphasized that Gandhi Jayanti celebrations reflect the enduring impact of Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings. He highlighted the establishment of Gandhi Clubs in educational institutions across the district to instill Gandhi Ji’s teachings in young minds, fostering social responsibility and promoting ideals of justice, equality, and harmony.

Throughout September, various programs were held in the district, including debates, competitions, seminars, and discussions, to delve deeper into Gandhi’s philosophy. Students from various institutions performed cultural shows based on Gandhian themes, demonstrating unity and peace. Speakers discussed Gandhian principles and their relevance today, emphasizing truth, non-violence, and social justice.

At Pulwama: Government Degree College Boys Pulwama hosted a special celebration marking the culmination of Gandhi Jayanti activities. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Basharat Qayoom graced the event, which featured captivating student performances reflecting Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy. Students engaged in various activities, and speeches highlighted virtues like non-violence, self-reliance, and cleanliness, echoing Gandhi Ji’s vision.

DC Qayoom praised the students’ performances, underlining the importance of Gandhian principles. He shared insights into Gram Panchayat plans, aligning with Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of self-sufficiency in rural India. Plans to establish libraries in five participating schools focused on Gandhian ideology were also announced.

At Ganderbal: A mega Shanti rally commenced at Mini-Secretariat Ganderbal, led by Deputy Commissioner Shyambir. The rally, attended by thousands, included district officers, police personnel, students, and the civil society. Participants paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi and remembered his teachings on cleanliness and non-violence.

DC Shyambir highlighted the district’s efforts in declaring 46 Panchayats Nasha Mukt (drug-free) and urged continued community involvement for a drug-free Ganderbal. Swachhata (cleanliness) and Nasha Mukt pledges were administered to promote Gandhi Ji’s principles and a cleaner, drug-free society.

At Kulgam: A mega function was held at Mini Secretariat Kulgam, presided over by ADDC Showkat Ahmad Rather. The event emphasized Gandhiji’s vision, including non-violence, swadeshi, and equality. Cleanliness was a central theme, and the importance of practicing it in daily life was highlighted.

During the celebrations, Gram sabhas for formulating plans for 2024-25 were launched, and a Non-Violence Pledge was administered among the participants. The event aimed to honor Mahatma Gandhi’s timeless teachings and promote a self-reliant and harmonious society.
