Kulgam Commemorates 70th All India Cooperative Week with a Focus on Economic Growth and Sustainability

Kulgam, November 19: The Department of Cooperatives in Kulgam organized a comprehensive awareness program to mark the 70th All India Cooperative Week, centered around the theme “Role of Cooperatives in a $5 Trillion Economy and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

Presided over by Dr. Bilal Mohi ud din Bhat, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kulgam, the day-long event aimed to celebrate the significant role of cooperatives in the region.

During the event, the Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies in Kulgam highlighted the district’s cooperative achievements, emphasizing the crucial role of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACs) in establishing Common Service Centers, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samriddhi Kendras, and Jan Aushadhi Kendras.

ADDC Showkat Ahmad Rather and ADC Viqar Ahmad Giri echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the necessity of reinforcing the cooperative movement on democratic and sustainable principles.

Dr. Bilal Mohi ud din Bhat underscored the potential of cooperatives in transforming lives and enhancing the socio-economic status of the populace. He stressed the imperative of fortifying the cooperative sector for greater societal upliftment.

Applauding the efforts, the DC encouraged collaboration among various stakeholder departments, such as Agriculture, Horticulture, Handicrafts, and others, to foster synergy and generate multiple employment avenues.

“Revitalizing the cooperative sector has been a major focus in recent years to leverage its full potential for accelerating socio-economic development,” remarked the DC.

As part of the celebration, registration certificates, Jan Aushadhi licenses, and Common Service Center registration certificates were distributed among various societies, enabling them to initiate new economic ventures.

Members from different District Cooperative societies shared their success stories, highlighting how they utilized the cooperative platform to uplift socio-economic standards within their communities.

The event served as a platform to reiterate the commitment towards fostering cooperative principles for sustainable development and economic growth in Kulgam.
