Kulgam Police Intensifies War Against Drugs: Two Arrested in Operation ‘Drugs Free Kulgam

Kulgam, December 16:

In a resolute move to eradicate the drug menace, Kulgam Police under the operation “Drugs Free Kulgam” successfully apprehended two drug peddlers, recovering contraband substances from their possession.

The District Police in Kulgam is leaving no stone unturned to track down and apprehend drug peddlers, signaling a stern crackdown on illegal drug activities. A Police party, led by IC PP Mirbazar, established a special checkpoint at *Mirbazar Chowk*. During routine checks, a suspicious person identified as *Amir Ahmad Shaikh, son of Manzoor Ahmad Shaikh, a resident of Churat, Qazigund*, was intercepted. Upon checking, officers discovered *1.8Kg* of Poppy Straw-like contraband substance concealed in a nylon bag. The individual, Amir Ahmad Shaikh, was promptly arrested.

In a separate incident, a police party led by SHO Police station *Qaimoh* set up a checkpoint at *Railway crossing Harnag*. During checks, a suspicious person identified as *Zahoor Ahmad Khan, son of Surab Khan, resident of Mudhanpor Khandria, Delhi*, was intercepted. Officers found *140 grams of Cannabis*-like contraband substance after a thorough search. Zahoor Ahmad Khan was arrested on the spot.

Two cases have been registered regarding these incidents: FIR No. *266/2023* U/S 8/15 of NDPS Act at *Police Station Qazigund*, and FIR No. *81/2023* U/S 8/20 of NDPS Act at *Police Station Qaimoh*. Investigations are underway in both cases.
