Delina Baramulla. Dean Social Welfare of Kashmir University organized an hour-long objective type examination on Sufism at North Campus in Sir Syed Ahmad Khan Auditorium of the Campus. In its efforts to bridge the gap between tradition and modernity, Dean Social Welfare of the University, Prof. Shamim Ahmad Shah, is organizing such events in different departs and Campuses of the University. Around 350 students of different Departments of the Campus participated in the examination.
Director North Campus, Dr. Sheikh Ghulam Muhammad inaugurated the examination in the presence of teaching and non-teaching faculty of the Campus. In his inaugural remarks, he said, “such an examination will not only help us in diagnosing the information that our next generation has about our Sufi tradition but will also motivate them to keep themselves in touch with their traditional way of life.” He further stated, “ Kashmir has been the abode of Sufis and Rishis for thousands of years and the Collective DNA of Kashmiris is encoded with Sufi and Rishi path of life; therefore, it is necessary to keep our tech-savvy generation in touch with our traditional way of life.”
Students of the Campus seemed quite enthusiastic about the theme of the test as hundreds of them voluntarily participated in the examination. Zubair Ahmad, a student of PG English, while rushing to the venue, said, “ as something new, different and related to our traditional path of life is happening, I am quite excited to participate in the examination as such an activity will allow me look at myself with reference to our Collective DNA.”
Faculty members present on the occasion included Dr. Wasim Jeelani Bakhshi, Dr. Faruq Ahmad Sheikh, Dr.Aijaz Ahmad Ganaie, Dr. Nazima Rasool, Bilal Ahmad Kaloo, Dr.Mohammad Ameen Parray , Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Lone and Dr. Khurshid Ahmad Qazi. Senior faculty member of the Campus, Dr. Khurshid Ahmad Qazi, thanked the Director for exposing students to alternative knowledge systems and said, “in our age of alienation, anxiety and crises, it is a must that our students are familiarized with Sufism as an art of life and a way of self-realization.”
