Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh Assumes Command of Army Training Command

BuzzBytes Srinagar, 01 Dec 2023:* Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh has taken over as the 24th General Officer Commanding in Chief of the Army Training Command, based in Shimla, succeeding Lieutenant General Surinder Singh Mahal, who superannuated a day earlier.

Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh is a distinguished alumnus of Sainik School Kapurthala, the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. Commissioned into 19 MADRAS on 20 December 1986, he brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

Throughout his career, Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh has commanded various units in challenging environments, including a Battalion in J&K during intense counter-insurgency operations. He has also led an Infantry Brigade at the Line of Control, an Infantry Division as part of a Strike Corps, and a Corps deployed along the Line of Control in counter-insurgency operations in J&K.

His diverse career includes stints in staff appointments in Corps and Commands along the Western Front, as well as in the counter-insurgency operations environment. He has served as an Instructor at the Indian Military Academy and the Indian Military Training Team in Bhutan. Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh has undergone prestigious courses such as the Defence Services Staff College, Higher Command Course, and attended the National Defence College in Thailand.

The General Officer has been the COLONEL of THE MADRAS REGIMENT since 01 January 2021 and served as the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Policy, Planning & Force Development) before assuming the role of General Officer Commanding in Chief of the Army Training Command.

With a focus on evolving doctrines, concepts, and warfighting technologies, Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh is tasked with leading the transformation of the Indian Army through training and shaping responsive and adaptive soldiers to meet future challenges. He has been decorated with the Yudh Seva Medal in 2015 and the Vishist Seva Medal in 2019 for his exemplary leadership and devotion to duty.

On assuming command, Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh extended warm greetings to all ranks of the Army Training Command, including Category A Training Establishments, Veer Naris, Veterans, Civilian Defence Employees, and their families.
