On Saturday, November 18th, Lt. Governor Shri Manoj Sinha graced the India International Trade Fair (IITF) held at Pragati Maidan and paid a special visit to the stalls hosted by the Kashmir Chamber of Industry & Commerce (KCCI). This day marked the celebration of “Kashmir Divas” at the fair, drawing attention to the vibrant offerings from the region. Accompanying the Lt. Governor were Javed Tenga, President of KCCI, Muzaffar Majid, Chairman of the Trade Fair Committee, and Zubair Mahajan, the Treasurer. Additionally, the entourage included Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Commissioner of Industries & Commerce Vikramjit Singh, and Khalid Jehangir, Managing Director of JKTPO.
Notably, this marked the debut participation of KCCI at the IITF, a significant milestone for the chamber. Following the inauguration of the fair and the commencement of retail sales, the Lt. Governor toured the various stalls, engaging personally with participants. The IITF stands as one of the most visited trade fairs, witnessing substantial commercial transactions by its participants.
Before exploring the KCCI stalls, the Lt. Governor also visited the Kashmir Trade Fair Organisation (JKTPO) Exhibition Hall. Addressing a gathered audience at the IITF, he honored the unmatched craftsmanship and artistry of Kashmiri artisans and weavers, emphasizing the unparalleled status of Kashmiri art, culture, handicrafts, and heritage crafts on the global stage. He commended the master craftsmen for their dedication, elevating these crafts to exceptional standards. Highlighting the significance of Geographical Indication (GI) tagging for over 10 products, he emphasized its role in promoting and nurturing the growth of Kashmiri handicrafts.
The Lt. Governor, alongside the Chief Secretary, Commissioner of Industries & Commerce, and MD of JKTPO, expressed sincere appreciation for KCCI’s efforts in championing the promotion of Kashmiri products on such platforms.
