BuzzBytes Srinagar, November 28:

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti expressed strong condemnation on Tuesday for the arrest of seven university students in Jammu and Kashmir. The students were allegedly taken into custody for raising objectionable slogans and celebrating India’s loss in the World Cup final.
The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir deemed the arrests “shocking” and “disconcerting.” Mehbooba Mufti urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to investigate the matter and address the concerns surrounding the students’ detention.
In a statement posted on X, she expressed her dismay, stating, “Disconcerting & shocking that cheering for a winning team too has been criminalized in Kashmir. Normalizing slapping of draconian laws like UAPA on journalists, activists & now students reveals the ruthless mindset of the establishment towards youngsters in J&K. Hearts & minds of people through the barrel of a gun (sic).”
The arrested students are enrolled at the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Kashmir. Their detention follows a police investigation initiated in response to a complaint by a non-local student who alleged harassment and objectionable slogans raised by his college mates after India’s loss in the final match against Australia.
