Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday told leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) that the coalition’s consistent electoral victories are the result of people-centric policies and sustained hard work, while cautioning MPs against complacency.
Briefing reporters after the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Prime Minister urged MPs to continue engaging with people at the grassroots and focus on welfare-driven governance, even as the alliance continues to win elections, including local body polls.
At the meeting, NDA leaders felicitated the Prime Minister for the successful conclusion of trade agreements with 39 countries. Rijiju said the developments had generated nationwide enthusiasm, particularly in the context of India and the United States agreeing on a trade deal under which Washington will reduce reciprocal tariffs on Indian goods from 25 per cent to 18 per cent.
“There is excitement among MPs and across the country that these trade deals have been concluded under the leadership of the Prime Minister. Agreements have been signed with 39 countries, most of them developed nations. This is historic and has created a very positive atmosphere,” Rijiju said.
Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora said the Prime Minister explained to MPs that the government’s decisions—be it trade deals or the budget—are guided by national interest. He credited Modi’s determination for the trade agreements with the United States and Europe, saying these would benefit small-scale businessmen and boost economic activity.
Rijiju said the Prime Minister also gave broad guidelines to both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs to strengthen their parliamentary responsibilities and welfare outreach. “The Prime Minister said the NDA is winning elections one after another because of good work. Elections cannot be won without being on the ground. We must remain connected with people and continue delivering,” he said.
The meeting also formally welcomed newly elected BJP president Nitin Nabin. MPs from BJP and NDA constituents including TDP, JD(U), LJP (R), Shiv Sena, JD(S) and others attended the meeting.
Among those present were Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Health Minister J P Nadda, Apna Dal leader and Union Minister Anupriya Patel, NCP leader Praful Patel, Shiv Sena leader Shrikant Shinde and Rashtriya Lok Morcha leader Upendra Kushwaha, among others.
