Kulgam, Jan 04: In a tense development, terrorists, initially cornered in an encounter with security forces in Hadigam village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, are believed to have escaped under the cover of darkness, according to official sources on Thursday.

The sequence of events unfolded when security forces initiated a cordon and search operation upon receiving intelligence about the presence of terrorists in Hadigam village. A brief exchange of gunfire occurred between the terrorists and security forces, prompting a suspension of the operation overnight due to limited visibility.

Security forces recommenced the search operation in the area, expanding the cordon at first light on Thursday. However, sources revealed that no fresh contact was established with the concealed terrorists during the resumed operations.

It is speculated that the terrorists seized the opportunity presented by the darkness of the night to make their getaway, successfully evading capture. The situation remains fluid as security forces intensify efforts to track down the escaped individuals.
