Staff Reporter | SRINAGAR | Mar 12:National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah expressed criticism towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that the recent notification of the rules for the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) just before the Lok Sabha elections reflects the party’s lack of confidence in securing a significant electoral victory.Abdullah stated, “Notifying the CAA rules shortly before the election announcement indicates BJP’s uncertainty about winning 400 seats. It seems they perceive their position as weak and are resorting to such tactics.”He further accused the BJP of exploiting religion for political gains, particularly targeting Muslims. Abdullah asserted that Muslims have consistently been singled out by the BJP, with the CAA being the latest example of such discriminatory policies. In a sarcastic tone, Abdullah referred to the CAA notification as a “Ramadhan gift” for Muslims, expressing regret over the move.Regarding the recent visit of the Election Commission of India, Abdullah disclosed that his party delegation met with the poll body and advocated for simultaneous parliamentary and assembly elections. However, he deferred further comment, stating, “Let us see what they decide.”Abdullah’s remarks underscore the growing political tension surrounding the CAA notification and its implications for religious minorities, particularly Muslims, in the context of the upcoming elections.
