New Delhi, March 5:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called for a “swift end” to the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia, asserting that military confrontation alone cannot resolve international disputes.
The Prime Minister made the remarks after holding wide-ranging talks with Alexander Stubb, who is currently on a four-day visit to India aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, investment and critical technologies.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Modi said India and Finland share a common commitment to the principles of dialogue and diplomacy.
“India and Finland, both, believe in the rule of law, dialogue and diplomacy. We are in agreement that no issue can be resolved through military conflict alone,” the Prime Minister said.
Referring to ongoing global tensions, Modi said India supports every initiative that contributes to peace.
“Be it Ukraine or West Asia, we will continue to support the swift end of conflicts and every effort towards peace,” he said.
During the talks, the two leaders agreed to elevate cooperation between India and Finland in the areas of digitalisation and sustainability to a strategic partnership.
Highlighting the significance of the collaboration, the Prime Minister said emerging technologies would play a central role in the partnership.
“This partnership, from AI to 6G telecom, from clean energy to quantum computing, will give momentum and energy to our cooperation in many high-tech areas,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister also noted that progress in negotiations for the India–European Union Free Trade Agreement would further strengthen economic engagement between the two countries.
“The India–EU Free Trade Agreement will further strengthen trade, investment and technology cooperation between India and Finland,” he said.
President Stubb arrived in India on Wednesday for a four-day visit aimed at expanding bilateral ties across multiple sectors, including digital innovation, sustainable development and advanced technology cooperation.
