Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the NDA parliamentary party meeting “Mangal Milan” in New Delhi, said strict action would be taken against those involved in the NEET examination paper leak so that no one dares to play with the future of the youth again. He stressed that to prevent such incidents of paper leaks in the future, all state governments would have to work together with the Central Government, rising above political differences, because this is a matter of national interest and not politics. Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju, briefing reporters after the meeting, said the Prime Minister told NDA members that as soon as reports of the NEET paper leak surfaced, the government took immediate action, registering cases against those involved, and that 13 accused have so far been arrested and sent to jail. Rijiju said the Prime Minister emphasised that the government ensured students’ academic future was not harmed, which is why the NEET re-examination was conducted on a priority basis and its results were also declared without delay. According to Rijiju, the Prime Minister told NDA members that the best legal experts in the country should be engaged to ensure the harshest punishment for those involved in serious crimes such as paper leaks, so that no one dares to repeat such an act in future, and made clear that playing with the future of the youth would not be tolerated under any circumstances and exemplary action would be taken against such elements, stressing that the Centre and all states must adopt a joint strategy to make the examination system completely secure and transparent. During the meeting, the Prime Minister also referred to achievements secured by the country in various sectors in recent months and briefed NDA members about free trade agreements being concluded with different countries, with Rijiju saying the Prime Minister assured that farmers’ interests would be given top priority in any free trade agreement, and that the government is ensuring these agreements benefit not just the country but farmers as well. The Prime Minister also directed all NDA members to remain united in ensuring passage of all important public-interest bills during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, while appealing to opposition parties to extend constructive cooperation, despite differences, in the interest of national interest, the future of the youth and the country’s development.
