The Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Khellani in Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir, has been a cornerstone of education since its establishment in 1935. Managed by the Department of Education, GHSS Khellani stands as a beacon of learning in a rural setting, providing education from Grades 1 to 12 with a co-educational approach and English as the medium of instruction.

Situated in the Assar block, GHSS Khellani boasts modern facilities including well-equipped classrooms, a library, counseling cell, and computer labs, ensuring a conducive learning environment for its students. Additionally, the school is easily accessible by all-weather roads, further facilitating its reach to students.

On the 27th of March 2024, GHSS Khellani hosted a significant event in collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) – a Poster Making and SVEEP Programme. This event aimed not only to foster creativity among students but also to raise awareness about the importance of standardization and electoral participation.

Under the able guidance of Principal Mrs. Sachla Kumari and Vice Principal Mr. Eshaan Ahmed Rather, the event witnessed the participation of esteemed guests and enthusiastic students. Mr. Davinder Kumar, Senior Lecturer Chemistry and mentor of the BIS Club, played a pivotal role in organizing and facilitating the program.

The event commenced with a warm welcome extended to guests by Mr. Nisar Ahmad Banday, followed by a captivating theme song performance by the students, setting the stage for an engaging day ahead. Mr. Davinder Kumar provided valuable insights into the role of BIS and the significance of standardization in various domains.

One of the highlights of the event was the Standard Poster Making Competition, which saw enthusiastic participation from registered students. Under the keen observation of the jury members, including Mr. Rajesh Kumar and Mr. Ajay Rana, the entries were evaluated based on creativity, relevance, and adherence to standards.

The competition yielded impressive results, with Sugata Manhas clinching the 1st position, followed by Ms. Heena Banoo, Mr. Ankush Kumar, and Sahil Kumar securing the 2nd, 3rd, and consolation prizes respectively. These talented individuals showcased their artistic prowess and understanding of the theme with commendable entries.

In addition to cash prizes and certificates of appreciation, the event served as a platform for educating students about the significance of World Consumer Rights Day, highlighted by Mr. Davinder Kumar. His insightful discourse shed light on the importance of consumer rights and the role of global initiatives in advocating for consumer welfare.

Furthermore, Mr. Nisar Ahmed Banday elucidated on the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, emphasizing its role in promoting voter literacy and participation. Mr. Eshaan Ahmed Rather reiterated the importance of SVEEP in nurturing a participative democracy, urging all eligible citizens to exercise their voting rights responsibly.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks extended by Vice Principal Mr. Eshaan Ahmed Rather, acknowledging the contributions of guests, participants, and organizers in making the event a resounding success. The refreshments provided to students were a testament to the school’s commitment to ensuring a wholesome experience for all attendees.
