Sakeena Itoo Inaugurates Tourism Facilities at Panchanpatri, Promises Sustainable Development in Kulgam

Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education Sakeena Itoo on Friday inaugurated several tourism-related infrastructure projects at the scenic Panchanpatri (Hompathri) area of Kulgam district, aimed at promoting tourism and improving public facilities for visitors.
During her visit, the minister inaugurated a newly constructed passenger shed developed by the Rural Development Department for the convenience of tourists visiting the Panchanpatri resort.
She also dedicated a newly established viewpoint at Panchanpatri to the public, saying the facility would enhance the tourism experience while showcasing the natural beauty and landscape of the region.
Addressing a large gathering, Itoo said the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is committed to developing unexplored and emerging tourist destinations across Jammu and Kashmir by strengthening infrastructure and creating modern public amenities.
“Panchanpatri and adjoining areas possess immense tourism potential due to their scenic beauty, peaceful environment and rich natural heritage. Our government is determined to harness this potential to create livelihood opportunities for local communities,” she said.
The minister stated that the government views tourism as a major driver of economic growth and employment generation in Jammu and Kashmir and is focusing on improving connectivity, civic amenities and tourism infrastructure in remote and rural areas.
“Our aim is not only to promote tourism but also to ensure inclusive development and socio-economic upliftment of people living in these areas,” she added.
During the visit, local residents apprised the minister of various demands related to road connectivity, tourism infrastructure and public utility services in Panchanpatri and surrounding villages.
Giving a patient hearing to the grievances, Itoo assured the people that all genuine issues would be examined on priority and necessary steps would be taken for early redressal.
She also stressed the importance of preserving the ecological and environmental significance of tourist destinations while carrying out developmental activities and called for coordinated efforts between departments and local stakeholders to promote sustainable tourism.
Earlier, the minister visited Khuribatpora area of Kulgam district and met families affected by a recent fire incident.
Expressing solidarity with the affected families, she assured them that the government stands firmly with them and all possible assistance would be extended to help them recover from the losses suffered in the incident.
She directed the concerned authorities to ensure timely relief and support for the affected families.
