The senior police officer from Jammu and Kashmir, Imtiyaz Hussain, expressed his disappointment after HDFC Bank denied him a loan, citing a policy against granting loans to policemen. His public outcry on social media received support from others, including fellow officers, journalists, and netizens who claimed to have faced similar discrimination from the bank.

Several individuals highlighted that despite HDFC Bank’s claims, there have been no instances of police officials from J&K Police defaulting on their loans. Imtiyaz Hussain emphasized that such discrimination based on profession contradicts the fundamental right to equality. He received an assurance from HDFC Bank’s customer care team that they would address the issue.

Others, including DIG south Kashmir Mohammad Rayees Bhat, chimed in, noting that such discriminatory practices might have historical roots but are surprising in today’s digital age. Imtiyaz Hussain emphasized that he raised the issue not just for personal reasons but to shed light on a broader problem that challenges the democratic and constitutional values of India.
