New Delhi,: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah on Thursday chaired a high-level security review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in the national capital, with the Centre reiterating its commitment to establish lasting peace in the Union Territory and completely eliminate terrorism. The meeting is the first major security review on J&K in 2026 and comes amid intensified anti-terror operations in the Jammu region and along the borders.
Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, the Union Home Secretary, Director (Intelligence Bureau), Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir, heads of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and other senior officers of security and intelligence agencies attended the review. Officials said the deliberations covered the current security scenario, recent terror incidents, and ongoing counter-terror operations in the higher reaches and remote areas of J&K.
Shri Amit Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Government of India remains committed to establishing lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir and completely wiping out terrorism from the region. Reiterating the government’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, he noted that sustained and coordinated efforts of the Modi dispensation have crippled the terror eco-system nurtured by elements inimical to India’s interests in J&K.
The Home Minister appreciated the efforts of security agencies and Jammu and Kashmir Police for strengthening the overall security grid in the Union Territory, including a reduction in terror incidents, infiltration and recruitment. He stressed that Counter Terror (CT) operations targeting terrorist infrastructure and terror financing networks must continue in “mission mode” to ensure no space is left for revival of militant structures.
Sources indicated that the meeting also reviewed aggressive operations launched in mountainous and difficult terrain, especially in parts of the Jammu region, to track and neutralise terrorists believed to be operating from remote hideouts. Strategy discussions included eliminating terrorists in higher reaches, tightening area domination plans and ensuring zero infiltration along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB).
Shri Shah directed all security agencies to remain on high alert and continue to work in close synergy so that the gains achieved after the abrogation of Article 370 are fully sustained. He underlined the goal of achieving a “terror-free J&K” at the earliest and assured that the Union government will provide all necessary resources—manpower, technology and logistics—to security forces and intelligence agencies to meet this objective.
