In a recent statement to the press, Mohammad Altaf Dar, a prominent socio, political activist, and senior trade union leader, has drawn attention to the challenges faced by teachers in private schools across UT J&K. Despite their pivotal role in shaping society, many educators encounter a disturbing lack of rights and respect in the private education sector.
Dar expressed deep concern over the treatment of teachers, noting a stark contrast with Western countries where educators are revered. In UT J&K’s private schools, teachers often endure torture, humiliation, and receive minimal salaries despite the institutions charging hefty fees. Teaching, traditionally considered a noble profession, is unfortunately relegated to a servile role by some private school owners.
Private school teachers, despite contributing to the sector’s thriving success, find themselves in a disheartening position. Dar highlighted the discrepancy between the immense wealth accumulated by school owners and the meager salaries provided to teachers. This exploitation, coupled with unethical treatment, including public humiliation, negatively impacts educators and leaves a detrimental impression on students, contributing to an illiterate and unethical society.
Dar, known for his advocacy in socio-political issues, emphasized the urgent need for reform in the private education sector. While school owners accumulate wealth through exorbitant fee hikes, teachers are relegated to the status of mere salespeople. The key issues, including poor salaries, disrespect, and autocratic administration, underscore the pressing need for a comprehensive and equitable approach to the treatment of teachers in these institutions.
The disparity in salaries, along with a lack of respect and an autocratic administrative approach, has led to widespread dissatisfaction and discontent among educators. This discontent, Dar warns, not only affects the morale of teachers but also poses a threat to the overall quality of education and the well-being of the students.
As Mohammad Altaf Dar sheds light on the challenges faced by private school teachers in UT J&K, the call for reform echoes, urging stakeholders to address these concerns and ensure a fair and respectful environment for educators shaping the future of the region.
