Sahil Manzoor Bhatti:

Social media has become one of the most powerful platforms to share thoughts, ideas, and creativity. It provides opportunities for individuals to connect, inspire, and contribute to the betterment of society. However, the misuse of this medium—particularly the promotion of abusive content—raises concerns about the direction in which we are heading. It is imperative for us to reflect on how we use these platforms and the kind of message we wish to convey.

Our youth possess immense potential and talent. They are capable of achieving extraordinary things when guided by purpose and positivity. As a society, it is essential that we cultivate a sense of responsibility and civility in our interactions, both online and offline. The world is advancing at an unprecedented pace, with humanity exploring new frontiers, even on planets that lack the basic components of life. This progress exemplifies the endless possibilities within human potential. We, too, must channel our energies toward meaningful contributions.

The way we communicate with one another matters. Civility and respect should be at the core of our conversations, enabling us to express our thoughts effectively and inspire others. Social media offers an incredible opportunity to share knowledge, showcase talent, and connect with like-minded individuals. In earlier times, many talented individuals remained unseen because they lacked a platform to express themselves. Today, these barriers no longer exist. From poetry and singing to drawing and mimicry, every individual has the chance to share their gifts with the world.

However, alongside these opportunities, there is a growing trend of content that promotes negativity. Some individuals resort to using abusive language or engaging in inappropriate behavior for the sake of gaining attention or views. Such actions not only harm the individuals involved but also affect the collective mindset of society. As responsible users of social media, it is our duty to discourage such content and instead promote positivity, talent, and meaningful conversations.

Kashmir, known as “Resh Waer” or the Valley of Saints, has a rich history of spreading messages of peace, brotherhood, and compassion. The teachings of Sufi saints remind us of the importance of unity and respect for all humanity. It is disheartening to see some individuals tarnishing this legacy by using harsh and inappropriate language on public platforms. We must remember our heritage and strive to uphold the values that define our culture.

Social media plays a pivotal role in shaping public opinion and highlighting cultural, economic, and developmental achievements. It has the power to connect individuals globally, fostering mutual understanding and respect. But with this power comes responsibility. We must be mindful of the content we create and share, ensuring it reflects the values we wish to promote.

In the Kashmir Valley, it is heartening to see the youth gravitating toward sports and other productive activities. Engaging in sports not only nurtures physical health but also instills discipline, teamwork, and a sense of purpose. As a community, we should encourage and support these endeavors by providing resources, facilities, and recognition. The government, too, has a crucial role to play in establishing well-equipped sports facilities at both rural and urban levels.

Finally, let us use social media as a tool for growth, learning, and positive change. Let us celebrate talent, share meaningful content, and support one another in our endeavors. By doing so, we can ensure that this powerful platform becomes a force for good, empowering individuals and uplifting society as a whole.
