Danishwar MirzaBuzzbytes, NewDelhi, February 14:Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, took a significant step by filing her nomination for the Rajya Sabha election from Rajasthan on Wednesday.Accompanied by prominent party members including MP Rahul Gandhi, general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, and state party president Govind Singh Dotasra, Sonia Gandhi’s nomination underscores the party’s strategic positioning ahead of the upcoming polls.Having served as Congress president for nearly 22 years until 2022 and holding the distinction of being a five-time Lok Sabha MP from Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, Sonia Gandhi brings considerable political experience to the electoral arena.The decision to contest the Rajya Sabha elections precedes the anticipated Lok Sabha polls slated for April-May this year, signaling the Congress party’s proactive engagement in shaping its representation at the national level.Rajasthan, with 10 Rajya Sabha seats, will witness three seats up for grabs in the upcoming biennial elections. As per the prevailing political dynamics, the ruling BJP is poised to secure two seats, while the Opposition Congress is slated to clinch one, based on their respective strengths in the State Assembly.Among the candidates, the BJP has nominated State vice-president and former Minister Chunnilal Garasiya, along with former Sumerpur MLA Madan Rathore, further setting the stage for a competitive electoral landscape in the state.
