Sustained Collaborative Efforts Pave the Way for a Cleaner Srinagar, Says District Commissioner

SRINAGAR, August 28(Buzzbytes) – In a remarkable achievement, Srinagar District has emerged as one of India’s top-ranking cities in the Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan 2023 (Clean Air Survey), a comprehensive evaluation conducted by the Central Pollution Control Board and the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MEFCC) under the National Clean Air Programme.

Srinagar has earned this distinction in the category of cities with a population exceeding 10 lakhs, securing an impressive 4th Rank nationwide. The leading positions were clinched by Indore, Agra, and Thane City, ranking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively. Bhopal, located in Madhya Pradesh, proudly secured the 5th rank in the Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan 2023.

The evaluation process meticulously examined the measures undertaken by the District Administration to enhance air quality as part of the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).

Commending the dedicated efforts of the Srinagar District Administration, including the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and the J&K Pollution Control Committee, Mr. Mohammad Aijaz Asad, Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, expressed his heartfelt congratulations. Mr. Asad, who also chairs the District Level Implementation and Monitoring Committee for the NCAP in Srinagar, affirmed the Administration’s commitment to fostering continuous collaboration in its mission to transform Srinagar into an even more livable city.

It’s worth noting that the District Administration of Srinagar, under the visionary leadership of Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aijaz Asad, has initiated numerous impactful projects aligned with the National Clean Air Programme. These initiatives are aimed at reducing PM10 levels by 2025, thereby substantially enhancing the Air Quality Index across the district.

The NCAP has spurred a series of initiatives, including the Mission Life campaign, wasteland rejuvenation, large-scale tree planting drives, fountain constructions, procurement of advanced cleaning and sweeping machines, and extensive Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities. These collective efforts have synergistically contributed to the ongoing endeavor to elevate the Air Quality Index in the picturesque Srinagar District, making it an exemplar of progress in clean air initiative-(Buzzbytes)
