Srinagar Shivers as Mercury Dips: Season’s Coldest Night Recorded at Minus 0.8°C, Fog Hampers Visibility.

Srinagar, Nov 20:Jammu and Kashmir experienced bone-chilling temperatures as Srinagar, the summer capital, recorded the season’s lowest temperature at minus 0.8°C on Monday, marking a drop of nearly 2°C from the previous night. The meteorological department highlighted that the temperature was 1.0°C below normal for this time of the year in the capital city.

Fog enveloped several areas, causing cold conditions and reducing visibility in most parts of Srinagar, inconveniencing morning commuters. Other regions in the valley also witnessed a dip in temperatures.

Temperature Readings Across J&K:

  • Qazigund, the gateway town, recorded a minimum of 0.4°C, which was minus 1.0°C below normal.
  • Pahalgam, the renowned resort, registered a low of minus 2.6°C, nearly 1°C below the normal temperature.
  • Kokernag, in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 1.2°C, maintaining normalcy.
  • Kupwara in north Kashmir noted a low of minus 0.8°C, which was 1.°C below normal.
  • Gulmarg, the skiing haven, marked a minimum of minus 1.2°C, consistent with normal temperatures.

In Jammu, the winter capital, the minimum temperature was recorded at 12.6°C, maintaining normalcy for the region.

The weather forecast indicates generally dry weather with occasional cloudiness on November 25, and no significant weather activity is expected until November 26. Shallow fog with mist is anticipated during morning and evening hours during this period.
