Today, most parts of Srinagar city experienced a major shutdown due to maintenance work, leaving large sections of the population without electricity for nearly the entire day. This disruption served as a powerful reminder of how indispensable electricity has become in our daily lives. From households to businesses, the absence of power for even a single day brings life to a standstill. It also underscores the urgent need to conserve energy while calling on the government to ensure a more reliable and uninterrupted power supply.
Omar Abdullah Sahib, during your campaign, a significant promise was made to provide free electricity up to 200 units, a pledge that resonated deeply with voters. People cast their ballots with the hope that you would deliver on this promise, one that would offer much-needed relief amid the rising cost of living. While we understand that such initiatives take time, today’s power outage reminds us of a different challenge: the need for a consistent and dependable energy supply.
For many, waiting for free electricity is something they are prepared to do, but being without power entirely is a much harder burden to bear. The government must prioritize upgrading and expanding the infrastructure to prevent such prolonged outages in the future. Citizens, on their part, must also realize the importance of energy conservation and sustainable practices.
As we look to the future, we hope the administration will focus not only on providing affordable electricity but also on ensuring that such blackouts become a rare occurrence. Power is no longer a luxury; it is a necessity. And we, the people of Srinagar and beyond, deserve a supply we can count on.
