Jammu, September 1, 2023 (Buzzbytes) – The ongoing dispute over the Sarore Toll Plaza has reached a critical juncture as the Jammu and Kashmir Transport Welfare Association has launched a chaka jam strike in the region, demanding the immediate suspension of toll collection at the Sarore Toll Plaza. This strike has had a profound impact on the roadways of Jammu.
The call for this strike comes shortly after Jammu witnessed a bandh called by the Yuva Rajput Sabha. The heart of the matter lies in the deteriorating condition of the highway that connects Jammu to Kathua Lakhanpur.
Ajit Singh, the President of the Transport Union, expressed, “We are engaged in a peaceful protest, staging a chaka jam. Initially, a small gathering was convened at Bhagwati Nagar. However, it drew a large number of transporters along with their vehicles. To ensure the orderly conduct of our protest, we have taken our demonstration to the streets of Jammu, and I must emphasize that it remains entirely peaceful and within the boundaries of the law.”
Singh clarified that their protest centers around the Sarore toll plaza issue. “We had contemplated lending support during the recent strike by the Yuva Rajput Sabha, but that decision was postponed to accommodate various festivals, including Raksha Bandhan and the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.”
The decision to hold the chaka jam strike today was made by the Transport Union in consultation with all affiliated unions. As the dispute rages on, it remains to be seen how this standoff between the transporters and authorities over the Sarore Toll Plaza will be resolved.
