United Against Terror

The 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit in New Delhi has delivered a powerful and much-needed message to the global community: the fight against terrorism must be universal, uncompromising, and devoid of selective politics. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin used the platform not only to condemn recent attacks in Pahalgam and Moscow’s Crocus City Hall but to underscore a shared understanding—terrorism is not just a national security issue; it is an assault on humanity itself.

In an era where geopolitical agendas often dilute the global response to terror, the frankness and clarity expressed at this summit deserve appreciation. Both nations firmly rejected “hidden agendas and double standards,” calling instead for a united and transparent global strategy. This is a reminder that any tolerance, justification or selective approach to terrorism weakens international security and endangers innocent lives.

The summit’s focus on eradicating terror financing, shutting down cross-border infiltration, and combating extremist ideology reflects the harsh realities of modern conflict. Equally significant is the recognition of how emerging technologies—including digital payments, drones, social media and encrypted communication—are being exploited by terror groups. The reaffirmation of the Delhi Declaration of 2022 signals India and Russia’s readiness to lead global thought on this evolving threat.

President Putin’s warm reception in New Delhi and the personal rapport between the two leaders reinforced a partnership rooted in mutual trust and strategic alignment. At a time when alliances are shifting and global fractures deepening, such stability carries exceptional value.

On Afghanistan too, the two nations spoke in one voice, calling for greater vigilance against ISIS and ISKP while simultaneously urging uninterrupted humanitarian assistance for the Afghan people. This balanced blend of firmness and compassion reflects mature diplomacy.

The Delhi–Moscow message is clear: terrorism can be defeated only when nations stand together without hesitation or hypocrisy. The summit deserves recognition for not only strengthening bilateral ties but also offering a principled, decisive and humane vision for global security.
