Vehicle with Fake Registration Plate Seized in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 11: In a significant operation, the Traffic Police in rural Kashmir, under the leadership of SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir RP Singh, seized a vehicle bearing a fake registration plate in Kulgam district. The Maruti Alto K10, identified with the registration number JK02CF 2710, was seized following discrepancies detected in the engine and chassis numbers, as well as the High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP).Acting on credible information, officials identified and acted swiftly, uncovering disparities between the class of vehicle stated in the original and duplicate Registration Certificates (RC). This discovery led to the initiation of a criminal case against the accused, identified as Mohd Iqbal Bhat from Pashpora Keegam Shopian. The case has been registered under FIR No. 10/2024, Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 IPC, at PS Shopian.Simultaneously, another vehicle with a counterfeit registration plate was flagged in Budgam district. Legal procedures under the Motor Vehicle/Criminal Act have been initiated against this vehicle as well.SSP RP Singh highlighted the pivotal role of E-challans in detecting vehicles with fake registration numbers. He emphasized the importance for legal vehicle owners to remain vigilant and report any suspicious online challan messages promptly to rural traffic headquarters. This proactive approach ensures swift identification and subsequent legal action against vehicles operating with fraudulent registration plates, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining law and order on Kashmir’s roads.
