Nair emphasized that necessary medical treatment had been accorded to Malik, in compliance with the court’s directives. The petition, filed on behalf of Malik through his mother Aatika Malik, had highlighted the urgency of his medical condition and sought direction for his treatment at AIIMS or a private super-specialty hospital in Delhi or Jammu and Kashmir.Furthermore, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed an appeal in the Delhi High Court seeking enhancement of Malik’s sentence from life imprisonment to death penalty. Malik was convicted on various charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in May 2022.Despite being awarded a life term, the NIA seeks to increase the punishment, citing the severity of the offences. The court had sentenced Malik to 10 years imprisonment for multiple offences, including waging war against the government of India and raising funds for terrorist activities. The case underscores the ongoing legal and medical challenges faced by Yasin Malik, a prominent figure in the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, amid concerns about his health and the judicial process.
