Srinagar October 20: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, today reviewed the performance and functioning of the School Education Department and the progress on implementation of Project Samagra Shiksha across Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, Bhatnagar called for timely completion of infrastructure projects, including girls’ hostels, and immediate operationalisation of the same. He also stressed on the need to prepare a thorough plan for training of teachers and to assess their competency based on the achievement of learning outcomes by the students.
Bhatnagar asked both the Directors to prepare a long-term plan for increasing the literacy rate in educationally backward blocks and to rationalise Pupil-Teacher ratio. He also stressed on the need to focus on competency-based learning and to involve PRI representatives in enhancing the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) and monitoring of schools.

The Advisor also reviewed the SAMIKSHA feedback mechanism and asked both the Directors to act on responses received from the students.
During the meeting, both the Directors and Project Director Samagra Shiksha gave a detailed presentation about their respective sectors.
Bhatnagar’s review of school education and Samagra Shiksha in J&K is a welcome step. It is important to ensure that all children in the UT have access to quality education, regardless of their background or location. The timely completion of infrastructure projects, teacher training, and focus on competency-based learning are all essential for achieving this goal.
